The Alico Road Extension is an important component of Lee County’s commitment to road infrastructure that provides for safe and efficient travel throughout the county.
On May 6, 2025, the Board of County Commissioners approved a modification to the construction phasing of the Alico Road Extension project. The decision advances construction of Phase 2 of the project, which connects existing Alico Road to SR 82/Sunshine Boulevard. This rephasing is projected to save nearly $2 million dollars of the final construction cost, and approximately 9 months off of the full project schedule, demonstrating better use of available public funds, as well as providing traffic relief to the area sooner.
Expected Phasing Sequence (subject to change):
Phase 1A: includes improvements to existing Alico Road necessary to accommodate the future connection, reconstruction of the existing Alico and Green Meadow intersection with a new traffic signal, two wildlife crossings and associated wildlife fencing, habitat restoration within Wild Turkey Strand, various drainage improvements.
Phase 2: includes construction of northbound lanes connecting Alico Road and SR 82. Two-way traffic will utilize these lanes while construction continues to complete four lanes. Also provides a temporary traffic signal at the Alico Road/SR 82/Sunshine Boulevard intersection.
Phase 1B: includes existing Alico Road widening to Green Meadow Road
Phase 3: includes widening Sunshine Boulevard from SR 82 to 23rd St. SW and construction of the continuous flow intersection (CFI) at Alico Road/SR 82/Sunshine Boulevard.
The shared-use path remains a part of the plan and is being completed in phases.
